The West End certainly has a reputation for being one of the liveliest parts of town, and with serviced offices in London a short step away from the heart of a vibrant West End theatre scene, there’s every reason to immerse yourself in the bustling culture of the area. From highbrow niche to broader audiences, with films such as Shrek and Legally Blonde already making their way to the stage, venturing out to some top West End shows makes both a great break from business and work, and an exciting way to build business relationships away from the London serviced offices.

We’ve rounded up our top West End shows in a bid to infuse the dark winter nights with a glow of culture and entertainment.

Bill Bailey performing with cow bells – Photograph by Nick J Webb

Bill Bailey’s Dandelion Mind

With a slight break in traditional theatre productions, Bill Bailey returns with comic tour-de-force as he presents a show packed with “trademark musical interludes, observations and stories of the road” in Dandelion Mind, based loosely on the theme of doubt (or is it?). You can expect a top West End show filled with weird and wonderful instruments, internet love songs, Darwin’s curious obsessions and the myth of intelligent design, all with the wonderfully surreal gloss that Bailey emits.

Yes, Prime Minister

If you’re in no hurry to rid yourself of business talk, then take in an anniversary production of Yes, Prime Minister, which sees original writers reunite characters Prime Minister Jim Hacker, Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and Principal Private Secretary Bernard Woolley for a special new play: “The world, of course, has turned meanwhile. Spin has become an art form and the BlackBerry is the must-have accessory. Dossiers have been ’sexed up’, the ’special relationship’ put to the test and countless MPs have stood down to ’spend more time with their families’.”

We’re sure you’ll agree that it sounds like an absolute must-see. The show is running now at the Gielgud Theatre, a short walk from London serviced offices at 33 St James’s Square.

Deathtrap

The fantastically written Deathtrap promises “a plot with so many twists and turns is bound to stump even the Sherlocks and Cluedo fanatics among you.” The play combines hilarious and dark jokes alongside “gasp inducing” thrill to create an intriguing production.

The play follows the fortunes of Sidney Bruhl, a down on his luck playwright: “It has been 10 years since his last hit and desperate times call for desperate measures. When Clifford Anderson, an unknown playwright sends Sidney Bruhl a script to die for, the playwright sees a lethal opportunity.”

The play is showing in the Noël Coward Theatre, a small and intimate theatre in the best sense. Positioned just off St Martin’s Lane, the theatre is a wonderfully old building steeped in a feeling of history, with quaint two-person boxes and good views from anywhere within the house. The theatre is also located only a short distance from Argyll serviced offices in London at Pall Mall.

If you’re a fan of the arts, the London theatre shows on offer for the Spring of 2010 include a fantastic selection of musicals, drama and comedy catering for all tastes, at a wide range of venues throughout the West End.

Musicals

All The Fun of The Fair – the new David Essex production – opens at the Garrick Theatre on the 28th April, near our London serviced offices at St James’s Square. Directed by David Gilmore, the show is inspired by the Essex album of the same name, and even features Essex himself in the role of fun fair owner Levi Lee.

<div align="center"

Opening on the 14th April, the classic Hair opens for a repeat of its 2009 Broadway run. Set in 1967, Hair tells the story of Claude, an anti-establishment hippie who gets drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. Featuring a selection of well-known songs, including ‘Good Morning Starshine’ and ‘Let The Sunshine In’, this production promises to be just as memorable as the first. Tickets are available now from the Gielgud Theatre – close to our Pall Mall London serviced offices – and online retailers.

Drama

Beginning its run in January this year at the Noel Coward Theatre on Saint Martin’s Lane, ENRON is still essential viewing throughout the Spring and beyond. So far, the play has been a resounding success, garnering excellent reviews from critics and the public alike. ENRON recounts the tale of the spectacular rise and cataclysmic fall of the American energy giant, focusing on the accounting scandal that eventually brought the company to its knees.

Starring Felicity Kendal in the eponymous lead role, Mrs Warren’s Profession has been playing at the Comedy Theatre on Panton Street since its March opening, conveniently within walking distance from most of our prestigious London serviced offices in the West End. This tale – originally penned in 1894 by George Bernard Shaw – of a prim-and-proper young woman discovering a darker side to her mother has been greeted warmly by critics, citing Kendal’s performance in particular as a highlight.

Comedy

Our pick for a new comedy/drama show to look out for this Spring is Holding The Man, a funny and touching story of a young man in Australia, struggling to come to terms with his sexuality while attending an all-male Melbourne high school and beyond. The story touches on some important issues, and is already a smash hit in Australia. The play opens at the Trafalgar Studios theatre on the 23rd April, making it an ideal choice if you’re looking to take in a show after a day at our London serviced offices on nearby Old Queen Street.

Watch an interview with the play’s adaptor Tommy Murphy below:

When people think of the West End, theatre is frequently the subject foremost in their thoughts. However, the West End has lots more to offer too. Read More...

When people think of the West End, theatre is frequently the subject foremost in their thoughts, and not without good reason: according to The Society of London Theatre’s 2007 figures, London’s West End is home to over 45 different theatres, often playing to audiences of more than 13 million people each year.

Some of the biggest and most well-known theatres include the Adelphi (close to our 33 St James’s Square and 78 Pall Mall London virtual office addresses), Apollo Victoria (ideal for our Belgravia offices), The Criterion, Haymarket Theatre Royal, The Royal Opera House and The London Palladium (a short walk from offices at 84 Brook Street and 53 Davies Street) to name but a few.

Of course, theatre is not to everyone’s tastes. Fortunately, the West End has other attractions and sources of entertainment on offer, in particular a plentiful amount of museums including the Handel House Museum and Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms. There are also a number of West End galleries catering for a variety of interests, such as the impressive Photographers’ Gallery, Canada House Gallery and The Royal Academy of Arts, all within close proximity to our prestigious London virtual office addresses.

Since the transformation from its less-salubrious roots in the 1980s, Soho has become a fashionable part of the West End, liberally strewn with restaurants, theatres and a thriving music scene which can be sampled in many of the numerous bars and clubs.
